Josep Olivet i Torras (born Manresa, 1980) is an entrepreneur and technology architect. He is chief executive of Manix Capital and leads the group’s technical architecture and product vision. He set up his first telecoms company at sixteen, Olivet Telecom, with a 125,000-peseta loan from his father: one server hosting customers' websites and giving them dial-up access. In 1999 he founded Altecom with other partners, running its own radio-link infrastructure around Manresa. In 2012 he went into business with Meritxell Bautista and in 2013 the two launched Fibracat. In January 2019 he made Manresa the first city in Catalonia with fibre routed through textile ducting. In 2021 Avatel Telecom bought Fibracat, by then an established operator in the Catalan market. Manresa’s El Pou de la Gallina magazine had already given him its Oleguer Bisbal prize in 2018. He now runs Manix Capital, incorporated in 2018, and is also chief executive of Floutel, the group’s fibre operator. His job is deciding what gets built in-house and what is not worth building, and making sure every piece of technology the group owns can be used more than once. His position is blunt: an architecture is only good if somebody else can run it without calling him.
